This course introduces you to an approach to positive change called, Appreciative Inquiry (AI). In the words of Robyn Stratton-Berkessel:
AI is a perspective on the world that connects leaders and their teams to the very best of who they are and what they do. The focus is on what works, what energizes, what gives life to human systems when we function at our best. AI methods tap into and leverage what already works and what the existing strengths and assets of a system are. It’s about discovering what people care enough about and are prepared and willing to take responsibility for now and into the future.
In this 8-hour, 4-week eCourse, you will learn about the origins of AI, its principles and assumptions, and positive change cycle. You’ll listen to videos of top thought leaders, and learn what makes AI a transformative change process. You’ll also practice some of the skills associated with AI and participate in discussions that take you through a mini-version of the positive change cycle.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe what an appreciative approach to change is, and how it differs from a problem solving approach.
- Delineate the assumptions and principles of AI, and the processes of the 5-D positive change cycle.
- Understand and craft appreciative questions and provocative propositions.
- Identify the factors contributing to, and competencies associated with, transformative outcomes when using AI.
